When we speak of “ego”, it most often is referred to as something that brings us down, is unloving and unkind. Getting rid of ego or “self” is not a necessary part of spiritual or personal growth. It is a part of us that recognizes who we are as individuals and is love of self.
Many have judged love of self to be selfish and a common belief is that the more we love ourselves the less we are able to love others. When we deny ego, we are denying a part of us. If we feel our ego is off balance, rather than pushing it away, try looking at the reasons for this. You will find that the imbalance is connected to unhealed emotions or beliefs. It is through the process of healing, more balance is gained.
